Vartana Voice is a voice product, so the honest short version is: we need your microphone, and here is exactly what happens to what you say.
What happens to your voice
When you speak into a lesson, the audio is sent to our speech-recognition provider, Sarvam AI, which converts it to text and returns a transcript. We do not store the audio recording after the transcript comes back.
We do keep the transcript and the score, because that is what your progress, your review schedule and your session reports are built from. If we deleted them the product would not work.
What we store
- Your email address and name, from Google sign-in.
- Your learning profile: target language, track, level, daily goal, neighbourhood.
- Every attempt: the transcript, the score, and the feedback given.
- Your vocabulary list and when each word is next due for review.
- Session records: how long you practised and with which persona.
- Purchases, if you buy anything, via Razorpay.
Who else processes your data
We use these providers, and only these:
| Provider | What it receives |
|---|---|
| Sarvam AI | Your audio, to transcribe it and to generate spoken replies. |
| OpenAI | Lesson transcripts, to judge grammar and write feedback. |
| Sign-in only. We receive your email, name and profile picture. | |
| LiveKit | Carries live conversation audio during roleplay and tutor sessions. |
| Razorpay | Payment details, if and when you buy something. We never see your card. |
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Where it is stored
During this beta, the database runs on hardware operated by us in India, reachable only through an encrypted tunnel. It is not exposed to the public internet.
Deleting your account
Email [email protected] from the address you signed up with and we will delete your account and everything attached to it. We aim to do this within seven days. There is no automated self-service delete button yet — building one is on the list, and until it exists we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Children
This service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we do with your data, we will email registered users rather than quietly editing this page.
